  • Why Caminante?

I was a Spanish major in college.  One of my favorite poems says "Caminante son tus huellas el camino y nada mas; caminante no hay camino, se hace camino al andar".  "Caminante" is one who walks, but "Walker" doesn't sound quite right.  A rough translation of those lines is as follows:  "your footprints are the path and nothing more.  Walker, there is no path, you make the path as you walk".  That sounds really awkward, but trust me on this one, it's a beautiful poem.  As a mother, a wife, a daughter, a friend, and as a woman, I have to make my own path.  My experiences are my own.  As I go through my journey in life, I make decisions based on what is best for my family and myself.  They may look different from your decisions for your family because each family is different.  And while I can use methods that I read about in a book, it will not look the same way as what the author describes.  I consider myself a student of attachment parenting.  While I did (and still do) breastfeed and co-sleep with all of my children, it looks a bit different with my oldest son, my younger son, and my daughter because they are three unique little people.  I am learning about positive discipline.  I am learning how to connect and reconnect with my two sons as they get older, especially now that they have a baby sister, and it does not look the same as when they were younger.  I am beginning a new journey which includes baby wearing sometimes.  I'm also learning the joys of natural living and the can of worms that are vaccines.  So that is me, a caminante walking through the parenting journey.

Caminante no hay camino, se hace camino al andar. It does sound beautiful in Spanish.  I added that to my college graduation invitation.  I remember us, ready to take on the world!  You and I have talked about this, life is not a one size fits all.  It does, however, take us some time to figure this out and even when we have, we still have to struggle with things at times, but that (I guess) is also part of life.

Woah.  I hope I made sense.  Seriously.  I was under the hot sun today for a Kinder graduation, if that is a reason.

Aw- I liked this post, it was pretty. And you're right. Every family has to walk their own path not followed by anyone else.
